Glossary editorial principles

  • Use one preferred English term and one consistent Ukrainian equivalent.
  • Preserve internationally recognised abbreviations such as FAIR, EOSC, DOI, ORCID, ROR and DMP.
  • Distinguish related but non-equivalent concepts, for example metadata and README, access status and licence, repository and catalogue.
  • Provide concise definitions suitable for researchers who are not metadata specialists.
  • Link each term to practical guidance, templates or services where appropriate.
  • Identify the authoritative source when a term comes from a formal standard, policy or technical specification.
  • Record the date of the last review for terminology that may change with standards or EOSC development.
  • Do not present explanatory glossary definitions as legal or normative definitions unless they are quoted from an official document.

Explanatory status of the glossary

The glossary provides practical explanations for research data management and FAIR data support. Where a term is defined by law, an official policy, a metadata standard or a technical specification, the authoritative source takes precedence.
