EOSC / OpenAIRE compatibility support
Data preparation for EOSC
We help research groups and institutions prepare datasets, metadata, documentation and resource descriptions for better visibility, interoperability and reuse in OpenAIRE, EOSC-related catalogues and European open science services.
This service focuses on practical readiness: metadata quality, identifiers, licences, README files, FAIR documentation, repository records, resource descriptions and links between datasets, publications, software, workflows and projects.

What this service supports
Metadata readiness
We help prepare metadata that can support discovery, citation, harvesting, indexing and reuse in repositories and open science catalogues.
Repository and OpenAIRE preparation
We support preparation of dataset records for DataverseUA and better compatibility with OpenAIRE harvesting and European discovery services.
Resource linking
We help connect datasets with related publications, software, projects, workflows, identifiers, organisations and other research outputs.
EOSC-oriented documentation
We help prepare README files, manifests, licences, access conditions and resource descriptions needed for FAIR and EOSC-oriented data publication.
How the process works
1. Request
You submit a consultation request and briefly describe the dataset, repository record, service or research resource that should be prepared.
2. Initial review
The Competence Center reviews the current state of the data, metadata, documentation, repository record and related outputs.
3. Readiness gaps identified
The Center identifies missing metadata, documentation, identifiers, licences, links to related resources or catalogue-relevant information.
4. Preparation and improvement
The dataset description, README, metadata, resource links and access conditions are improved according to FAIR, OpenAIRE and EOSC-oriented requirements.
5. Ready for publication and discovery
The final packageis better prepared for DataverseUA publication, OpenAIRE visibility, cataloguing and further EOSC-related integration
What users should prepare
To make the process efficient, users are encouraged to prepare:
- dataset title or working title;
- short description of the dataset or research resource;
- current metadata or repository draft, if available;
- README file, if available;
- file list or folder structure;
- related publication, project, DOI or repository link;
- information about authors, contributors and organisations;
- licence or access conditions, if known;
- information about software, methods, instruments or workflow;
- links to related datasets, code, models or documentation;
- information about target repository, catalogue or project requirements;
- specific questions about OpenAIRE, EOSC, FAIR readiness or interoperability.
Expected outcomes
Depending on the request, the outcome may include:
- improved metadata for repository publication;
- recommendations for OpenAIRE compatibility;
- recommendations for EOSC-oriented resource description;
- improved README or documentation;
- recommendations on identifiers and related resources;
- recommendations on licence and access conditions;
- recommendations on metadata profiles and controlled terms;
- dataset or resource record prepared for DataverseUA;
- recommendations for FAIR readiness;
- a practical list of next steps for publication, cataloguing or further integration.
What EOSC-ready preparation means
EOSC-ready preparation does not mean that a dataset is automatically included in EOSC. It means that the dataset or research resource is prepared in a way that improves its visibility, interoperability and reuse potential in the wider European open science environment.
This includes several practical elements.
1.Clear metadata
The dataset or resource should have a clear title, authors, description, keywords, resource type, date, licence, access conditions and related outputs.
2. Persistent identifiers and links
Where possible, the record should include DOI, ORCID, ROR, related publication identifiers, project links and links to software, workflows or other datasets.
3. Repository-ready documentation
The data should be accompanied by README, file inventory, manifest, method description or other documentation needed to understand and reuse the files.
4. OpenAIRE visibility
Metadata should be prepared so that repository records can be harvested, indexed and connected with publications, projects and organisations.
5. Catalogue readiness
Research resources should be described in a structured way so that they can be represented in catalogues, portals, thematic nodes or future EOSC-related services.
6. FAIR and machine-actionable elements
The description should use controlled terms, standard metadata fields, clear licences, access conditions and links that can be understood by both humans and machines.
