Package research objects

Describe and validate datasets, software, workflows and provenance as structured research objects.

Use EOSC services

Discover resources, launch tools and manage data or computational work in the EOSC EU Node.

FAIR assessment is not FAIR certification

Assessment tools test selected indicators that can be evaluated manually or automatically. A score depends on the metrics, object, metadata exposed to the tool and technical access method.

A high score does not by itself confirm scientific quality, correctness, legal compliance, long-term preservation or suitability for a particular reuse scenario.

Tool selection checklist

Check the following before adopting a tool in a research or institutional workflow.

Object and purpose

Does the tool address datasets, metadata, repositories, software, workflows or user knowledge?

Input requirements

Does it require a DOI, public URL, API endpoint, metadata file, local installation or authenticated EOSC account?

Result and limitations

Does it produce a score, advisory report, metadata record, packaged object or executable environment?

Maintenance and integration

Are documentation, source code, licence, release status and integration requirements current and suitable?

Verify current tool status and data conditions

External tools may change their interfaces, metrics, access requirements, supported formats, deployment status and terms of use. Review the provider’s current documentation before including a tool in an institutional or project workflow.

Do not submit confidential, personal or restricted information to an external assessment or metadata service unless its security, privacy and data-processing conditions have been verified.
